(AP)  -  The United States, having already clinched its first Davis Cup title in 12 years the day before, substituted Bob Bryan for Andy Roddick in Sunday's first reverse singles match.

The Russians likewise subsituted Igor Andreev for Mikhail Youzhny in the first match.

Bryan and his brother Mike on Saturday defeated the Russian duo of Andreev and Nikolay Davydenko 7-6 (4), 6-4, 6-2 to give the United States an insurmoutable 3-0 advantage in the Davis Cup final against the Russians.

The team captains were allowed to subsistute players up to one hour before the match. The draw originally pitted sixth-ranked Roddick against Youzhny followed by 13th-ranked James Blake against Dmitry Tursunov.

The once-dominant United States had not won the Davis Cup since 1995, the longest span without an American victory. Pete Sampras last led the team to victory over Russia on clay in Moscow.

The victory gave the United States its 32nd title in the international team tennis competition, dating to 1900.

On Friday, Roddick defeated Tursunov 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 in the opening match and Blake outlasted Youzhny 6-3, 7-6 (4), 6-7 (3), 7-6 (3) to give the United States a 2-0 advantage going into the doubles match.
