Dollar mostly lower, gold rises in Europe

(AP) - The U.S. dollar was mostly lower against other major currencies in European trading Wednesday. Gold rose.
The euro traded at $1.5872, up from $1.5793 late Tuesday in New York. Later, in midday New York trading, the euro fetched $1.5867.
Other dollar rates in Europe, compared with late Tuesday, included 105.89 Japanese yen, down from 106.01; 1.0145 Swiss francs, down from 1.0195; and 1.0105 Canadian dollars, down from 1.0230.
The British pound was quoted at $1.9935, down from $1.9944.
In midday trading in New York, the dollar bought 105.97 yen and 1.0153 Swiss francs, while the pound was worth $1.9932.
Gold traded in London at $936.00 per troy ounce, up from $929.50 late Tuesday.
